Here’s how to make a cold brew with Aeropress:

  • Grind 30 grams of coffee beans to a coarse texture. You want to keep the beans coarse, as grinding them finely will cause your coffee to become acidic and give an intensely bitter taste.

If you don’t have a coffee grinder or aren’t willing to grind it yourself, you can ask your local coffee shop to help you.

  • Invert your Aeropress coffee maker and add your coarsely ground coffee to it. To invert, you place the plunger into the top of the brewer and then flip it over.
  • Add 132 grams of tap water at room temperature. This amount creates a perfect ratio between coffee and water. Then, stir the mixture together using a paddle or spoon. Then cover the machine with a filter or cup.
  • Leave to sit for 18-24 hours at room temperature. This is where we wait for the magic to happen.

Pro Tip? Ensure your cold brew sits in a cool area away from direct sunlight.

  • Prepare your paper filter for use. After 24 hours, your coffee will have been properly extracted. You now want to rinse your filter to remove any paper taste.
  • Add filter to the basket, screw onto Aeropress, and flip. Next, take your washed filter and screw it to the opening of the inverted Aeropress.
  • To flip, place your cup upside down on top of the filter and hold tight as you flip the machine over. This will prevent your cold brew from spilling over and creating a mess.
  • Clean your Aeropress. Once you’ve extracted your coffee, you can go ahead to trash the grounds and clean up your Aeropress.
  • Finally, dilute the coffee concentrate. You can use ice water, iced cubes, or milk and adjust depending on your taste.

What Kind of Coffee Beans Should You Use?

The flavors resulting from using our Aeropress Cold brew recipe depend on the coffee beans used. In other words, you need to use the right coffee beans to get the best brew possible.

But what coffee beans should you use for Aeropress cold brew recipe?

We recommend using your favorite medium or dark roast. This is because Cold brewing helps bring out the coffee’s rich, nutty, and chocolate flavor.

But, ensure you grind your beans coarsely as this influences how well they taste. Otherwise, if you grind too finely, you will likely end up with dry clumps and over-extracted coffee grounds that will give your brew a bitter taste.

So, keep your medium or dark roast coffee beans coarse during the grinding process.

What is the best Grind Size for cold brew?

As a rule of thumb, you want to use a coarse-sized coffee grind for Aeropress iced coffee.

But why is this?

You want the water to penetrate and fully steep the grounds easily and quickly.

A coarsely sized coffee grind will give you that. On the other hand, finer ground coffee tends to over-extract, giving a bitter taste.
