A new study reveals that coffee is not diuretic at first, and in fact, the drink may be just as good for the body as water, the researchers claim.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham, England, studied the fluid levels of 50 men who drank between three and six cups of coffee during the day.
And the results surprised.
Not only did the researchers conclude that coffee is not diuretic, but they could actually see that coffee has the ability to supply body fluid in the same way as water – which is known to be the best thirst drink, the website npr.org writes.
“Caffeine really had no effect on the fluid level in the body,” says a researcher at the University of Connecticut, who has looked at the study under the auspices of the site.
In other words – it’s not the coffee that makes you constantly have to run to the toilet.
To compare the effects coffee and water have on the body, each of the participants went through two phases in the study. In one phase, coffee was the main source of liquid, while in the other it was the same amount of water.
Still important not to overdo the intake
These results support previous studies conducted in the field.
Another study conducted by a group of athletes found that caffeine did not hinder participants’ fluid intake, even when they consumed coffee as a thirst drink during a high-heat workout.
According to the researchers, it is especially in people who regularly drink coffee that fluid intake is not particularly affected.
– It is known that you can develop a tolerance to the diuretic effects of coffee if you drink it regularly, says Sophie Killer, author of the study at Birmingham.
Still, there is no reason to drink coffee as you drink water.
